Traveling to Portugal? Visit Ericeira, a village close to Lisbon, with so much to offer.

Ericeira is a painted blue and white village, past stories inside each house, fishermen village who risked there´s life to be able to bring food to the table of their family.

Situated about 40 kilometers from Lisbon, known as the "land of hedgehogs," it is place of escape for the people of Lisbon during the weekend and currently very popular village and frequented by surfers.

I like this village for its serenity during the winter and beaches, that have cold water, are invigorating and perfect for rest  during part of the day or during an end-of-week.

Although a small village, has a lot to offer. It has beaches, fresh fish, seafood, locals for waterspouts and regional sweets. Besides, what would be the Portuguese without the typical sweets?

If you wish to spend a weekend in this village, there are several solutions. You can stay in the Camping Park, camping in tents or bungalows, staying in a hotel or in one of several hostels in town.

In my opinion, the Hotel Vila Gale Ericeira is a balanced option because it enables a comfortable stay by the sea and inside the village. I have no experience regarding the hostels, just know that are within the village and the facilities are buildings that have been restored and adapted for hostel. As I mentioned, I have not tried them, and as such, I can not say my opinion about them, just that are well located and are very frequented by surfers.

Ericeira has became mandatory spot for surfers and in the village and surrounding areas, there is the opportunity to learn the sport and stay in the belonging of the school premises. They are much sought after by people of various nationalities and very well connoted.

The most popular beaches for water sports enthusiasts are Ribeira d'Ilhas, world reserve of surfing, and Praia dos Coxos in Ribamar. But before venturing out to sea, you can see how is the sea through webreport.

If you are looking for places to eat, and more specifically to lunch, I advise you to visit the nearby beaches of Ericeira. You can try the restaurant "Golfinho Azul" that stands for location and view of the sea, the restaurant "Marisqueira Ribamar", well known for seafood and then the restaurant "Clube Naval Praia da Assenta" where you can eat good fish. be aware that in this last restaurant the payment is only in cash.

These restaurants are just a few examples, but you can find many other good options in the town and its surroundings.

And because Portugal is also known for its regional sweets, you can try the "Ouriços Doces" in the "Casa dos Ouriços", the oldest and famous place to taste this typical sweet of Ericeira.

Ericeira é uma vila pintada de azul e branco, de histórias passadas no interior de cada casa, vila de pescadores que arriscavam a sua vida para poder levar comida para a mesa da sua família. 

Situada a cerca de 40 quilómetros de Lisboa, conhecida como a “terra dos ouriços”, é local de fuga para os lisboetas durante o fim-de-semana e actualmente, vila muito procurada e frequentada por surfistas.

Gosto desta vila pela sua pacatez durante o inverno e pelas praias, que embora sejam de àgua fria, são revigorantes e perfeitas para descansar, seja durante uma parte do dia ou durante um fim-de-semana.

Embora seja uma vila pequena, tem muito a oferecer. Tem praias, peixe fresco, marisco, locais para praticar desportos aquáticos e doces regionais. Aliás, o que seria dos portugueses sem os doces típicos?

Se desejarem passar um fim-de-semana nesta vila, existem diversas soluções. Podem ficar no Parque de Campismo, em tendas de campismo ou bungalows, ficar hospedado num hotel ou em um dos diversos hostels da vila.

Na minha opinião, o Hotel Vila Galé Ericeira é uma opção equilibrada, pois possibilita uma estadia confortável, junto ao mar e dentro da vila. Dos hostels que existem, não tenho qualquer experiência, apenas sei que se encontram dentro da vila e que as instalações são prédios que foram entretanto restaurados e adaptados para serem hostel. Como já referi, não os experimentei e como tal, não posso afirmar o que seja sobre eles, apenas que estão bem localizados e são muito frequentados por surfistas.

Alias, a Ericeira tornou-se local obrigatório para praticantes de surf, existindo na vila e arredores, a possibilidade de aprender este desporto e ficar em instalações pertencentes à escola. São muito procuradas por pessoas de várias nacionalidades e muito bem conotadas.

As praias mais procuradas pelos amantes dos desportos aquáticos são Ribeira d´Ilhas, considerada reserva mundial do surf, e praia dos Coxos, em Ribamar. Mas antes de se aventurar ao mar, poderá visualizar como está o mar através do webreport.

Se procura locais para comer, e mais especificamente para almoçar, aconselho que visite as praias próximas da Ericeira. Poderá experimentar o restaurante “Golfinho Azul” que prima pela localização e vista sobre o mar, o restaurante “Marisqueira Ribamar”, muito conhecido pelo marisco ou então o Restaurante “Clube Naval praia da Assenta” onde poderá comer bom peixe. Apenas alerto que neste ultimo restaurante, que o pagamento é exclusivamente em numerário.

Estes restaurantes são apenas alguns exemplos, mas poderá encontrar muitas outras boa opções dentro da vila e arredores.

E porque Portugal é também conhecido pelos seus doces regionais, poderá experimentar os “Ouriços Doces” na “Casa dos Ouriços”, o local mais antigo e afamado para provar este doce típico da vila da Ericeira.
